Get a birds-eye view of the Tri-Cities region in Central Michigan

Dates: August 1–4, 2024

Ballooning is one of the main highlights of the Midland Area River Days Festival, a favorite local community tradition with over 35 years of history. The festivities take place in Downtown and other locations across Midland in early August. Balloons are launched from the picturesque Chippewassee Park, located on the confluence of the Tittabawassee and Chippewa Rivers at the end of Ashman Street.

Midland Area River Days Festival's main event is a massive hot air balloon ascension from the park when 25 balloons dot the sky with various shapes and colors. The balloons' launch at 7 pm is usually followed by an amazing balloon glow, which takes place from 9 to 9:30 pm. After taking plenty of pictures of the glowing balloons, visitors can head to Main Street in Downtown to listen to some live music, watch a movie, and indulge in delicious food. The entertainment lasts until midnight.

The festival in Downtown Midland is a great occasion to get the advantage of the beautiful outdoors and plenty of entertainment. In addition to live music, there's an art fair, fun competitions, kids' activities, a zip line, 3D climbing wall, and bungee jumping. The last day of the festival ends with a spectacular fireworks display, which follows the balloon glow.
