History
CURLFEST was founded in 2014 by the Curly Girl Collective, an experiential marketing group established in 2011. Initially attracting 1,000 guests, the festival has since grown exponentially, with over 35,000 attendees from more than 32 countries each year. The Curly Girl Collective, composed of Charisse, Simone, Tracey, Gia, and Melody, aimed to create a space where women with naturally textured hair could feel beautiful and appreciated. Over the years, CURLFEST has become a pivotal event in the natural hair movement, challenging societal norms and celebrating the diversity of black beauty. The festival's mission is to redefine beauty standards, providing a platform for women of all shades, shapes, and sizes to be celebrated for their natural beauty.
