Toronto Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebration (February 1–2, 2025)

The central Lunar New Year festival in Toronto takes place in the Chinatown Business Improvement Area, centered around Toronto Chinatown Mall and Dragon City Mall. A highlight of the festivities is the highly anticipated Lion Dance parade, followed by a lively street festival around Spadina Avenue and Dundas Street West. The neighborhood bursts into life with vibrant red decorations, the rhythmic beats of drums, and the sounds of fireworks and firecrackers.

The festival offers a rich cultural experience with free admission, featuring traditional Asian singing and dance performances, interactive games, and other family-friendly activities. Festivities typically run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., making it a perfect way to immerse yourself in the celebratory spirit of the Lunar New Year.

Lunar New Year at Roy Thomson Hall (February 8, 2025)

Another elegant way to celebrate Chinese New Year in Toronto is to attend a special performance by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra at Roy Thomson Hall. This event features a rich blend of classical music and traditional Chinese artistry. Hosted by beloved comedian Dashan and conducted by renowned maestro Naomi Woo, the concert offers a symphonic homage to the Year of the Snake.

Highlights include the ethereal sounds of the guzheng, played by the talented Wu Fei, and a mesmerizing excerpt from the Butterfly Lovers Concerto, performed by acclaimed violinist Stella Chen. The show begins at 8 pm, and ticket prices range from $41 to $147, depending on seating.

Fête Chinoise Gala (January 25, 2025)

Fête Chinoise is celebrated as a premier Chinese New Year event in Toronto, renowned for blending traditional Chinese arts and culture with a luxurious modern experience. Hosted at the Park Hyatt, this signature event features a showcase and cocktail reception, complete with a red carpet entrance, immersive art installations, live music performances, and exquisite culinary offerings. This year marks the 10th anniversary of Fête Chinoise, adding an extra layer of festivity to the occasion. Tickets for this exclusive celebration start at CA$690.

Other venues hosting Lunar New Year festivities

Several locations across Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area host Chinese New Year events to honor the festive season. The Markham Civic Centre, First Markham Place Mall, Square One Mississauga, and Pacific Mall are popular spots, often featuring Lion Dances, martial arts showcases, traditional instrumental performances, cultural exhibits, art installations, and fairs.

Additionally, the Milton Chinese Canadian Association (MCCA) is organizing a Chinese New Year Gala on February 1, 2025, from 6 pm to 9 pm.
