Minneapolis is a diverse multi-ethnic city, and many of its residents celebrate the Lunar New Year with fireworks and festivities. During the two-week period following the New Year, quite a few Chinese restaurants in the city offer specials, so it is a perfect time to indulge in such delicacies as hot pot, dumplings, and spring rolls.
CNY at Midtown Global Market (January 29, 2025 TBC)
One of the most popular Chinese New Year Celebrations is held at Midtown Global Market in the Midtown Phillips neighborhood of Minneapolis. A bustling showcase for international foods and crafts from different countries is combined with live music and traditional lion dances, as well as activities organized by the Chinese Heritage Foundation. Kids can also do crafts and fun competitions. The event usually spans from 12 pm to 3 pm and is completely free to attend.
CNY at the Mall of America (January 29-30, 2025 TBC)
The Lunar New Year Celebration at the MOA is another iconic way to ring in Chinese New Year in the Twin Cities. This free festival has something for everyone, from cultural demonstrations and presentations to traditional performances. Visitors have a chance to take family photos in front of festive backdrops and enjoy various foods available at food stalls. The event usually spans from 12:30 pm until 5 pm at the Huntington Bank Rotunda.
Lunar New Year Celebration with the Minnesota Orchestra (February 8, 2025)
The Orchestra Hall is our number three destination to make memories for Lunar New Year. Minnesota Orchestra gathers friends and families to mark the holiday with quality music and family-friendly entertainment, promoting the themes of unity and health. Taking place at the Orchestra Hall, the concert is set to welcome the Year of the Snake with traditional Chinese compositions, such as Spring Festival Overture, Awakening Lion, Yellow River Piano Concerto, and Empress of the Pagodas from Mother Goose Suite. The event will take place at 7 pm. Tickets vary from $15 to $106.
