Great Galena Balloon Race is an annual event that takes place on the third full weekend in June at Eagle Ridge North Golf Course, Galena. The Crack of Dawn Balloon Race takes place on Saturday and Sunday mornings, preliminary at 5 am, but time flexes weather depending. Most entertainment is planned for the evening hours, namely 5 through 10 pm. Some of the highlights of Saturday night include the Classic Car Show and Great Galena Art Sale in the big tent.
The admission is $5 per person. You'll have to pay with cash at the gate, with no options of payment by credit card or debit card available. The profits of the Great Galena Balloon Race benefits kids with diabetes, namely Camp Hertko Hollow and Juvenile Diabetes Research (JDRF). Therefore, no carry-ins are allowed.
