The Maldives include around 1190 islands, out of which only up to a hundred are resort islands, and all the rest are mysterious tropical lands, often totally uninhabited and waiting to be explored by boat. For an authentic experience take a traditional Maldivian Dhoni boat. The most popular are so-called "liveaboard" cruises which also include diving opportunities. Manta Rays and Whale Sharks are regular encounters. Besides, liveaboards are known to be cheaper than other boat tours. However, even without all those perks, it's always delightful to glide on turquoise waters and enjoy breathtaking surroundings, no matter which vessel you choose. Most boat trips start in the capital of Male. The season runs mostly between November and May.
