When it comes to celebrating Independence Day, residents of Savannah get very creative. Spoiler alert: You can do many things in the city on the 4th of July, but here is our pick of the top three.
River Street Celebration (July 4, 2023)
River Street is one of the most famous sites for Independence Day celebrations in Savannah. On the 4th of July each year, it turns into a themed party mecca with thousands of patriotically dressed people, various contests, food trucks, games, etc. Live entertainment is available at Plant Riverside District and on Rousakis Riverfront Plaza. But the best part about this celebration is the fireworks show, which starts at 9 pm. So don't forget to book your waterfront accommodation with the best view beforehand!
Tybee Island July 4th Fireworks (July 4, 2023)
Tybee Island is a popular 4th of July destination with excellent beaches, swimming, sunbathing, but most of all, thanks to the island's amazing Independence Day fireworks show. The pyrotechnic show held over the Tybee Island Pier can be seen from most of the eastern beaches. Fireworks start at about 9:15 pm and last for about 15 minutes.
Trolley tour
Sightseeing in Savannah on Independence Day is surely a great idea. A special trolley bus will take you around the city’s gorgeous historical destinations. And the best part is that the bus circulates through major patriotic party spots around Savannah, letting you hop on and off, so you can choose your favorite.
Museum Excursions
Visiting one of Savannah’s museums is a terrific opportunity to learn more about America's customs and traditions and pay tribute to its culture. A great example is the American Prohibition Museum. There, you can learn all about the 1900’s anti-alcohol era and daily life during those times.
