West Virginia Renaissance Festival is an annual event taking place eight miles west of Lewisburg, West Virginia, over four weekends in June. The festival showcases the Golden Age of medieval history, creating a colorful fantasy world in the Greenbrier Valley. The family-friendly event features music, jousting, equestrian exhibitions, circus, comedy, and other performances.
West Virginia Renaissance Festival is centered in the fictional village of Essex, ruled by King Edward and Queen Eleanor. The main highlight of the festival is a jousting show, held to honor the royals. Three times per day, the public can see spectacular performances by Hann-Lees Action Theater. Another attraction is an equestrian show by a skilled stunt troupe. The festival runs from 11 am. until 8 pm. Every weekend of the festival has a different theme, like Pirates Landing, Celtic Crossing, or Barbarians.
The marketplace is full of artisans, merchants, jugglers and magicians, rope walkers, and whip crackers. The public is encouraged to try games of skill, listen to and dance to medieval music. Fun activities include seeing the dragons, visiting the petting farm and riding the unicorns. archery, ax throwing, knife and star throwing, catapulting frogs, and much more. Food includes medieval options, like turkey legs, as well as modern snacks , like hot dogs, jerk-chicken tacos, pizza, and desserts.
