The lake was formed after a volcanic eruption now being 800 meters wide and up to 50 meters deep. The water is warm enough for swimming all year long, but during April and May, it will most likely be dry and hot so swimming can be particularly refreshing. Regarded as sacred the lake area is surrounded by unspoiled tropical forests which can be an ideal place to relax with family and friends. The local communities who live near the lake still keep their ancient lifestyles. Yeak Laom Lake is a place of worship for them as they believe in a powerful spirit who owns the surrounding land and forest.
