Telluride Balloon Festival is possibly the most charming event of the summer in the area. Moreover, admission is free for all events. Over a long weekend in early June, about a dozen of balloons rise above the town and sail for a mile afar.
The highlights of the festival are two mass ascensions that occur on Saturday and Sunday at Telluride Town Park. Balloons are launched at 6 am as early hours provide the best conditions for this activity. Food and drinks vendors will be located at the basketball court in Town Park. Tethered rides are possible. Usually, 2-3 people can climb in one balloon basket to experience the magical take-off moment. All ballooning activities are weather-dependent.
The Main Street Glow on Saturday evening must be a favorite of many. This event takes place from 6 to 10 pm on the Main Street. The warm glow of giant balloons with gorgeous mountains in the background is a sight to behold. You'll have plenty of opportunities to snap a breathtaking shot, so grab your camera and don't hesitate to attend the Balloon Photo Workshop on Saturday afternoon (usually from 1 pm to 2:30 pm, at Christ Presbyterian Church)!
