Southwest Louisiana is known for its colorful Mardi Gras celebration with authentic cajun food. Lake Charles is one of the best places in the region to immerse in Louisiana traditions and have plenty of fun. Lake Charles offers at least a dozen of various parades and parties at the beginning of the year. Don't miss the mouth-watering World Famous Cajun Extravaganza and Gumbo Cook-Off!

The highlights of Lake Charles Mardi Gras season include The Lighted Boat Parade, a beautifully illuminated procession on Lake Charles. Krewe of Omega Parade is the only Southwest Louisiana Krewe parade. Lundi Gras Day Party is a masked block party that warms up the crowds before the big night. Mardi Gras Royal Gala is the culmination of the celebration that brings together over 60 krewes marching through the Civic Center Coliseum.

Iowa Chicken Run is one of Lake Charles' most hilarious events where chickens have to be captured to make a gumbo. Second Line Stroll is another beautiful parade in Downtown Lake Charles that walks from Ryan Street south to Sallier Street to demonstrate the spirit of Mardi Gras. Finally, Krewe of Krewes Parade features over a hundred floats from many local krewes that go through downtown Lake Charles.
