Carnaval Andino con la Fuerza del Sol 2024

A huge celebration in Northen Chile featuring thousands of dancers and musicians

Dates: January 26–28, 2024

Carnaval in Chile is not as popular as in its neighbouring countries. However, some regions have colorful festivities that are worth visiting. Carnaval Andino Con la Fuerza del Sol or Andean Festival with the Strength of the Sun is one of the most important festivals in the northern part of Chile. Held in the city of Arica this Chilean Carnaval is a blend of Catholic, Spanish and indigenous traditions. The city of Arica becomes a giant stage for exuberant shows and dances, where Chilean musicians play music along with the bands from Peru and Bolivia.

The Andean Carnival with the Strength of the Sun gathers more than 160,000 people during the three days of the festival, including 16,000 dancers and bands, performing on stages that cover about 2 km through the old town of Arica. Thanks to these numbers, this carnival is recognized among the largest ones of its kind found throughout South America. The grand finale of the festival is held on the great scene at the foot of the Morro de Arica.
