It is also very unusual in perfectly combining hockey and football. There are many Cups and Leagues throughout the year in Sweden, such as, for example, Svenska Cupen.
As soon as bandy was introduced in Sweden in the late 19th century, it became one of the biggest sports in the country. In the past, bandy was played on frozen lakes. Later, bandy fields were created on soccer pitches in the winter. A bandy field has to be significantly larger than a regular ice hockey rink. Bandy is considered to be a winter sport, so most competitions end around April.
This sport originates from England and is the second most popular winter sport in the world. About 350,000 players are registered in the club. And Swedish players are considered among the best in the world, having won 12 men's and 8 women's world championships. The most famous bandy team in Stockholm is Hammarby Bandy. They play at their home stadium Zinkensdamm IP.
Bandy Rules
Each team in this sport consists of 11 players, including a goalkeeper. Players must score goals by hitting an orange or pink ball into the opposing team's net with a curved stick.
