Georgetown, a city in central Texas, which is known for its Victorian-era historic Downtown, holds vibrant 4th of July festivities, which includes a patriotic parade and a fireworks display. Round Rock, a city south of Georgetown, hosts its own Frontier Days Celebration and Independence Day parade.

Georgetown 4th of July Family Celebration

A well-loved Independence Day celebration in Georgetown has been around for almost four decades since it was first held in 1983. The event and fireworks display, hosted by the Georgetown Sertoma Club, is held at San Gabriel Park. Admission to the venue is free, but some activities are subject to a fee.

Kiddie 4th of July Parade

The day, full of family-friendly fun, usually starts at 11 am with the collective signing of the anthem, followed by the Kiddie Parade. The procession usually starts at the low-water crossing near the College Street bridge and finishes at the pavilion. The families and their children are encouraged to bring decorated in red, blue and white bicycles, wagons, or strollers for the parade. Motorized vehicles and pets are not allowed. The procession is relatively short—Parade Awards are usually given out at 11:30 am.

Music

More entertainment awaits at San Gabriel Park starting at 11:45 am. Get ready to hear the best of Texan music, all performed live by the local performers and bands. The music sets are usually played late into the night until 9:45, after the fireworks display. You can grab a blanket or a lawn chair, set up for a picnic, and enjoy an evening of soulful country and Americana music.

Entertainment & Activites

Simultaneously with the parade, other entertainment options normally start operating at 11 am. The celebration features the arts and crafts fair, food and beverage vendors, a petting zoo, and a classic car show. The market takes place right in the center of San Gabriel Park and operates from 10 am to 10 pm.

The children will especially enjoy inflatables, bounce houses, and carnival rides. Additionally, the venue is equipped with a free kids zone and a premium zone for teenagers and preteens. If you're feeling competitive, feel free to participate in any of the games, including Laser Tag, Sports Shooting Game, Axe Throwing, or Soccer Darts.

San Gabriel Park Fireworks Display

The 4th of July fireworks show is the culmination of the festivities. The show starts at about 9:30 pm. Fireworks are usually launched from the McMaster Athletic Fields on North College Street. San Gabriel Park and VFW Park are some of the best places to view the show.

Round Rock 4th of July Celebration (July 4, 2024)

Located just 10 miles (16 km) south of Georgetown, Round Rock is a great place to spend the 4th of July if you're in the area. Starting in the early morning with the Sertoma Independence Day parade and continuing on with Frontier Days, the city is worth visiting just for its festivities.

Round Rock Sertoma 4th of July Parade

The parade usually begins at 8:30 a.m. on the 4th of July on Mays Street in Downtown Round Rock. The participants will embark on a 1.5-mile (2.4 km) procession along Mays Street between Highway 79 and Mays Crossing. The spectators will be treated to the sight of local groups in patriotic clothing, large helium balloons, cold-air inflatables, and floats.

Round Rock Frontier Days Celebration

The 4th of July festivities in Round Rock don't stop there and continue in Old Settlers Park, usually from noon until 11:30 pm. The event's grounds will be full to the brim with activities, including traditional carnival rides, kid-friendly entertainment, and live music from local artists. The highlights of Frontier Days at Round Rock are definitely the thrilling challenges and competitions, like the Pepper Eating Contest or Swifty Swine Racing Pigs.

Reenactment & Fireworks Show

Since Round Rock is also the final resting place of Sam Bass, an infamous American outlaw, the celebration also features a riveting reenactment of his Round Rock shootout. And right after a whole day of fun, you'll have an opportunity to enjoy a dazzling fireworks display right from the Old Settlers Park, which will begin at dusk.
