FunkFest Festival Featured in
Virginia Beach Funk Fest is an annual jam and dance event that takes place every August or September at 24th Street in Virginia Beach. The festival is dedicated to such funk legends as James Brown, Sugarfoot’s Ohio Players, George Clinton, Sly, and the Family Stone and others. Funk Fest features live music arts and crafts vendors, dance contests and lots of food.
This two-day nostalgic funk and disco era event draws thousands of music fans who come to listen to the bands, enjoy home-style food and dance with their friends. Admission to the festival is free, but there is a preferred viewing ticket option next to the stage. Funk is a music style that originates in the 1960s. It was influenced by jazz, soul, and R&B, but with a faster rhythm that is typical for dance music.
