Funk Fest Beach Party 2024

The greatest party of the year at Virginia's oceanfront

Dates: August 23-24, 2024

Virginia Beach Funk Fest is an annual jam and dance event that takes place every August or September at 24th Street in Virginia Beach. The two-day nostalgic funk and disco era event draws thousands of music fans who come to listen to the bands, enjoy home-style food, and dance with their friends. The festival celebrates such funk legends as James Brown, Sugarfoot’s Ohio Players, George Clinton, Sly and the Family Stone, and others.

For 14 years, Funk Fest Beach Party has been bringing great music to the oceanfront. The festival also features arts and crafts vendors, dance contests, and lots of food. The event runs from 6 to 11 pm.

Funk is a music style that originated in the 1960s. It was influenced by jazz, soul, gospel, blues, and R&B, but with a faster rhythm that is typical for dance music. Funk played an important role in the development of modern genres like disco and hip-hop.

Tickets

Admission to the festival is free, but there is a preferred viewing ticket option next to the stage. A two-day pass gives access to a closer viewing area on the beach, dedicated portable restrooms, and a cash bar. Patrons still bring their own beach chairs. With a ticket, your spot by the stage is guaranteed, while free admission is limited due to the beach's capacity. Ticket Holders can enter the festival grounds at 24th Street, while the free admission entrance is located at 25th Street.

What to bring

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own beach chairs, blankets, and towels. They can bring small coolers, food, and beverages. However, alcohol is not allowed on the beach. Also, please leave your pets home, unless they are certified service animals. Professional camera and video equipment, umbrellas, and tents are also not allowed during the festival.
