Every year, for ten days at the end of summer, Aarhus transforms into a vibrant hub of activity, pulsating with life. Various venues, from clubs to stages, museums to galleries, and even streets, become stages for both national and international artists to showcase their art. The current theme, 'Mind the Gap,' defines the festival's focus from 2023 to 2025, reflected in the annual poster designed by a different artist each year.

The Aarhus Food Festival runs alongside the cultural event. There, you can grab a snack in the breaks between the shows, exhibitions, and other entertainment. History of the Festival

Established in 1964 and debuting in September 1965, Aarhus Festuge swiftly emerged as one of Northern Europe's premier themed festivals. Originating as an experiment the year prior, the inaugural Aarhus Festival was conceived to unite and energize the city's institutions and associations. Its overarching mission was to showcase Aarhus' cultural identity, grounded in the belief that art, culture, and community are vital components of urban vitality. Hailed as a resounding success, the festival has since become an enduring annual tradition. With each passing year, the festival has attracted artists from around the world, transforming it into a vibrant celebration of international creativity and cultural exchange.
