Enjoy the sight of magical Christmas lights during "the blue hour," while sitting by an open fire with a cup of warm gløgg. This is what the Danish Yuletide season is all about!

Aarhus

Aarhus Ridehuset (November 24–December 17, 2023)

The central Christmas Market of Aarhus takes place inside the beautiful Ridehuset Equestrian Hall, located right in the heart of the city. The market, which has free admission, consists of 85 stalls with hand-made Danish crafts and art, ranging from traditional to modern. It's a good place to try Danish baking, listen to Christmas music, and have a glass of warm wine. The market, which runs from late November through late December, is open from 11 am to 5 pm.

Tivoli Friheden Christmas (November 18-December 30, 2023; on selected dates)

Tivoli Friheden amusement park in Aarhus looks magical during Christmas. You will feel the Christmas spirit as soon as you enter the park and walk through the 229 ft (70 m) light tunnel, which is illuminated by 50,000 sparkling Christmas lights. In addition to the wonderland full of Christmas lights, there is a cozy Christmas market, lots of fantastic Christmas decorations, and plenty of exciting rides to enjoy.

Old Town Aarhus Christmas Market (November 24-December 17, 2023)

Den Gamle By or The Old Town in Aarhus is a place right out of a fairy tale. An open-air museum, located in the Aarhus Botanical Gardens, is a great place to experience a traditional Danish Christmas. A Christmas museum, a lantern exhibition, and lots of magical experiences await visitors of all ages. Kids will surely enjoy a visit to the elves' attic at Aalborggården and a ride on an old-fashioned merry-go-round. Don't forget to try traditional Christmas foods, like wild boar sausages, pancake puffs, and other delicacies sold at Torvet Square.

Odense

Egeskov Castle Christmas Market (November 12–13, 19–20, 26–27, December 3–4, 2023)

Famous for its impressive Renaissance architecture, Egeskov Castle is one of the best in Europe. From mid-November through early December, the castle, located within a one-hour drive from Odense, hosts a spectacular Christmas Market with over 120 stalls, offering arts & crafts, Christmas decor, and local specialties. Visitors can also see vintage cars and aircraft, listen to carols, and have a bite at Spisetorvet square. The menu includes gløgg, Danish puff pancakes, and more delicious foods.

Copenhagen

Christmas in Tivoli Garden (November 17–December 31, 2023)

Copehagen boasts the most popular Christmas markets in the country. To begin with, the Christmas market in Tivoli Gardens is a great place to enjoy this historic amusement park with dozens of fun rides. Beautiful decorations all over the gardens, Christmas stalls, selling all sorts of festive souvenirs, and foods, the Tivoli Youth Guard's illuminated parades, and Christmas music in Tivoli's Halls will take you to the Christmas fairytale.

Højbro Plads Julemarked (November 3–December 21, 2023)

Højbro Plads hosts another traditional Christmas Market in Copenhagen. Here you can experience an old-fashioned Christmas tradition with Christmas trees and decorations, about 80,000 sparkling Christmas lights, reindeer, and Santa’s sleigh. And all this with free admission!

Hans Christian Andersen Christmas Market at Nytorv (November 17–December 21, 2023)

This peculiar Christmas market is named after a world-famous and beloved children's storyteller. Hans Christian Andersen Christmas market is located in Nytorv. Every stall is named for one of his fairy tales and, naturally, has its own theme.
