Christmas Markets in Reykjavik 2024

Reykjavik Christmas markets draw the attention of many tourists thanks to their fairytale atmosphere

Dates: mid-November–late December

One of the best decisions for this holiday season would be putting on warm clothes and walking through bright Christmas markets in Reykjavik. This city transforms into a winter wonderland of stalls with delicious food and an awe-inspiring Christmas atmosphere. Are you ready to take the plunge?

Christmas village in Hafnarfjörður (December 1-23, 2023, weekends)

One of the most delightful Christmas markets in Reykjavik is located 20 minutes away from this city in the heart of Hafnarfjörður village. The locals decorate their houses, shops, and streets to celebrate Christmas in the best possible way. There, you can find different stalls full of gourmet cakes, crafts, and colorful gifts under the Christmas tree. The market is open every Saturday and Sunday during Advent.

Christmas market at Ingólfstorg Square (December 1-23, 2023)

This Reykjavik Christmas market is a bit different from the previous two since it features something more. In addition to festively decorated stalls with food, drinks, and gifts, the Christmas market at Ingólfstorg Square has a huge ice rink, where you can try ice-skating and let your hair down. The market is free; however, you have to rent skates and helmets.

Christmas market at Elliðavatnsbær in Heiðmörk (November 25–December 17, 2023)

Every year, the Reykjavík Forestry Association manages the Christmas market at Elliðavatnsbær in Heiðmörk. It’s a great opportunity to take your family and walk in the forest while choosing beautiful items such as a Christmas tree for the holidays. Also, you can buy unique art and food in the Christmas handicraft market. It is open every Advent weekend from 1 pm to 5 pm.
