If you're looking for moderate winter weather and beautiful illumination, Lisbon is a perfect destination for the holidays. The city is dressed up in millions of twinkling lights, and there are several Christmas Markets that will help you get into the holiday spirit. Be it the Wonderland in Eduardo VII Park or the Campo Pequeno Christmas Market, there's plenty of festivities to enjoy during you holiday getaway.
Wonderland (November 29, 2024–January 1, 2025)
Wonderland Lisboa is located in Eduardo VII Park in the center of Lisbon. The premier holiday destination in the Portuguese capital features a Christmas Market, a Ferris wheel with 360º views from heated cabins, and an ice skating rink. The market consists of cozy wooden stalls offering apparel, accessories, crafts, and regional products. There are plenty of international and local foods to try. Kids can make a picture with Santa and other favorite characters in the Christmas Village. Admission to the market is completely free.
Hours
The market is open from Monday through Thursday (December 2-20) from 1 to 10 pm and from Monday through Thursday (December 23-January 3) from 1 pm until 11 pm. On Fridays, the market operates until midnight, while on Saturdays, it's open from 10 am until midnight. Sunday hours depend on dates: on December 1st and 8th, the event can be visited from 10 am until 10 pm, while on the rest of Sundays, it's open until 11 pm. The hours differ on holidays, with the market open from 10 am until 4 pm on December 24th and December 31st and from 4 pm until 10 pm on December 25th and January 1st.
Campo Pequeno Christmas Market (November 28–December 1; December 5-8, 2024)
The former bullfighting arena, Campo Pequeno, offers a jolly Christmas market with over 140 stalls. Fun activities and workshops are available for the whole family. Vendors offer delicious foods, Portuguese trinkets, toys, apparel, decor, and various crafts. If you still didn't get a chance to purchase some stocking stuffers for your loved ones, Campo Pequeno is your chance.
The market, which always takes place during several weekends in late November and early December, is a popular place to look for Christmas presents thanks to a great number of artisans in one place. The market is open from 11 am until 9 pm. Admission normally costs €2 and is free for children under 10 years old, provided they are accompanied by an adult ticket holder.
Cascais Christmas Village (November 23, 2024–January 5, 2025 (on selected days)
Every winter, Cascais, located about a half-hour drive from Lisbon, becomes a Christmas village for 27 days. The festivities take place at the picturesque Parque Marechal Carmona, boasting 17.7 acres (7 ha) of space and a scenic pond. A real reindeer, a 26 ft (8 m) Christmas tree, a skating rink, and a vibrant Christmas market attract about 160,000 visitors annually. Christmas Village, located at Parque Marechal Carmona, is a perfect place for kids, where they can visit The Santa Claus' House (Casa do Pai Natal), walk through the Enchanted Forest, and see the House of the Tree Magician. An old-fashioned merry-go-round and the Christmas Train are also among kids' favorite attractions.
Hours & Dates
During November and the first half of December, the market is primarily open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with occasional openings on Thursdays. Starting from December 18 and continuing until January 5, the market operates daily. On specific dates—November 29, December 5-6, and December 12-13—the market is open from 11 am to 8 pm.
On all Saturdays and Sundays before December 18 and daily from December 18 onward (excluding December 24-25 and December 30-January 1), the market extends its hours from 11 am to 9:30 pm. On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, visitors can enjoy the market from 11 am to 5 pm, while on Christmas Day and New Year's Day, it opens later, from 3 pm to 8 pm.
Tickets
Tickets cost €14 for people between 12 and 65 years old, €12 for children between 3 and 11 years old and seniors over 65 years old, and free for children under 2 years old. Family Pack costs €48 for a family of four, €49 for a family of five, and €70 for a family of six.
