Warsaw's renovated center Old Town (Stare Miasto) looks simply stunning with fresh snow and Christmas decorations! On the edge of the Old Town, visitors can find Warsaw's Christmas Market in Barbakan (Jarmark Bożonarodzeniowy na Barbakanie), held in the picturesque square in front of the Royal Castle, which used to defend the Old Town in the sixteenth century. The market operates from late November through early January, from 11 am to 8 pm, with extended hours till 9:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
The Christmas Market consists of about 60 wooden chalets, offering candy, gingerbread cookies, and authentic Christmas presents, like hand-painted glass baubles, hand-knit sweaters, carved wood, and embroidered tablecloths. Not to mention plenty of food and hot drinks to keep everyone warm. Traditional food, mulled wine, and hot chocolate would make anyone forget about wintery chill!
The main highlight of the market is the giant Christmas tree placed in the center of Castle Square. At night it features one of the best holiday light shows in Europe. Visitors can enjoy Christmas decorations, taking a stroll to nearby Old Market Square (Rynek Starego Miasta). The Old Town’s ice rink is another popular winter attraction in addition to folk music and kids' activities.
