Jazz sous les pommiers (or Jazz Under Apple Trees) is an annual jazz festival in Coutances, La Manche region, France. The week-long festival, which is set in the heart of the Cotentin peninsula, traditionally gathers crowds of jazz fans during Ascension week. An eclectic lineup includes jazz legends and aspiring artists. A special stage is set up for amateur musicians to present their music to the wide public.
Held since 1982, the festival was founded by two jazz fans, Thierry Giard and Gérard Houssin. In 2011 the festival celebrated its 30th anniversary with a spectacular Folle Parade in the centre of Coutances.
Jazz sous les pommiers is known for its diverse programming, which includes classical New Orleans-style jazz and electronic music. Previous lineups included performers like Sandra Nkaké, Sixun, Tijn Wybenga, Tigran Hamasyan Trio, Antibalas, Jake, Robin McKelle, AM.OK (NL), Vincent Peirani, Sylvain Rifflet, Electro Deluxe, Angelica Kidjo, Joshua Redman, Thomas Dutronc et les Esprits Manouches, Jeremy Underground, Fatoumata Diawara, Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Theo Ceccaldi and more.
