River of Light 2024 in Liverpool
Stunning audio and visual installations on the riverwalk

River of Light is the annual festival in Liverpool that features a variety of amazing audio and visual installations, forming an illuminated outdoor gallery on Liverpool Waterfront in the city center. River of Light combines art, music, and light. Twelve brilliant works of contemporary art are set up on a 1.2-mi (2-km) loop, which can be explored on foot.
Light Installations
The festival presents new works from local, national, and international artists every year. During 17 nights from late October to early November, Liverpool guests and residents can enjoy some unique light sculptures in iconic locations. In 2024, the festival presents 12 installations: Impulse by Lateral Design, Piano Walk by Amigo & Amigo, Rangoli Mirrored Cosmos by MURUGIAH, Bubblesque by Atelier Sisu, Illusion Hole by UxU Studio, Positive Spin by Liz Harry, Lightbattle III by VENIVIDIMULTIPLEX, LAPS by Olivier Landreville, Bunch of Tulips by Koros Design, No place like Gnome, Checkmate by Amigo & Amigo, and Firefly Field by Studio Toer.
In the past, the festival featured famous visual artists from all over the globe, such as French artist Camille Walala and London designer Yinka Ilori, a Sydney-based Atelier Sisu, led by Renzo B. Larriviere and Zara Pasfield, Australian light sculptors Amigo & Amigo, UK-based Studio Vertigo, New York-based Yellow Studio, and Tais Poda, a visual artist from Ukraine. Each year, the festival has a different theme, and artists collaborate with famous composers, like John McHugh, Peter Adjaye, and Dmytro Saratskyi, to create a unique sound for the artwork. The installations are switched on from 5 pm to 9 pm.
Locations
The festival celebrates the relationship between the city, music, and light. Among the highlights is the sculpture at Liverpool ONE, looking like a giant field of light, consisting of more than 100 interactive LED platforms. Liverpool Town Hall also hosts an installation comprising of neon artworks inspired by Diwali. The atrium of the Museum of Liverpool, Canal Basin, Pier Head, Salthouse Dock, Royal Albert Dock, Mann Island Atrium, and other famous locations are part of the spectacular River of Light.
