Norway's largest cultural celebration takes part in Trondheim around Nidaros Cathedral, noted as the burial place of Norwegian patron saint Olav Haraldsson. The theatrical reproduction of notorious Stiklestad battle highlights the festivities, transferring spectators back into 1030, when Olav Haraldsson died attempting to unite and christianize the Norwegian lands. He was later declared a Saint as miracles started occurring around his remains. The St. Olav Festival also features other jovial performances, concerts, exhibitions, foods, and a medieval fair. Norwegians gather around the holy site to honor St. Olav annually by the end of July, festivities last to early August.
