The Shanghai Tourism Festival has been held for more than twenty years, attracting up to ten million people. The festival parade, which is the main part of the opening ceremony, brings together dozens of performing groups and uniquely shaped floats.

Shanghai Tourism Festival Highlights

Each year, the opening parade is broadcast on television and radio and attracts more than 200 million viewers. The festival has become one of the most popular events for Shanghai locals. Spirit of Chinese and international traditions fills the city, but there also is a lot of modern entertainment.

For instance, every weekend until the end of the festival you can hear bands from all over the world. One more interesting thing about the event is that Shanghai Tourism Festival gathers a number of just married couples, adorned in Chinese matrimonial costume. Finally, there is a Cruise Ship Parade on the Huangpu River. Here you will see dozens of exquisitely decorated cruise ships.

Festival History

Since 1990, the Shanghai Tourism Festival (STF) has become an annual tradition for more than twenty years. Throughout the festival's history, over 400 foreign artistic ensembles from the USA, Germany, Great Britain, France, Ukraine, Australia, New Zealand, Serbia, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Finland, Lithuania, Poland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Greece, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Latvia, Brazil, Mexico, the Bahamas, Colombia, South Korea, India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, and others have been officially invited to participate in the parade.
