Espirito Santo or Saint Spirit festival is a mix of religious processions and congo music. For generations, the tradition to honor the African heritage has been saved. Nowadays, it is one of the most authentic celebrations for an outsider to open up Dominican traditions.
Usually held on the first or second week of June, Espirito Santo is celebrated throughout the country. But the main highlight is contained in Villa Mella near Santo Domingo.
Música Congos del Espíritu Santo features vocal singers that sing in a dialogue manner and various instruments. It's possible to see drums of all sizes, the maracas and sticks create an incredible sound that can be only heard here.
