November 3rd brings another of many national holidays - Victory Day. For the occasion, numerous parades, ceremonies, and passionate speeches take place throughout the islands, including spectacular performances in the capital city of Male. On this day locals commemorate the events of 1988, when Maldivian soldiers along with their allies from India successfully fought Sri Lankan armed mercenaries, forcing them out of Male.
