Singapore’s National Day 2025
Singapore demonstrates its military pride and other achievements of its independence via patriotic celebration
Dates: August 9
Singapore became independent from Malaysia in 1965. The 9th of August, known as Singapore's Independence Day, is packed with various entertainments.
Celebration Highlights
Singaporeans commemorate this special day by adorning the island in red and white, with flags proudly displayed outside buildings and homes. The celebration highlights include breathtaking military parades, vibrant multicultural song and dance performances, and dazzling fireworks displays.
The National Day Parade
The prime spectacle is naturally the pompous National Day Parade that usually takes place at Marina Bay and is composed of Singapore Armed Forces displays, Singapore Police Force, Civil Defence Force, people's action parties, labor unions, business entities, student groups, and various youth organizations.
Activities
The celebration program, beyond the grandeur of the parade, fireworks, and the Prime Minister's official speech, is designed to engage everyone. It includes stage performances and a variety of interactive activities that often invite audience participation. In the lead-up to National Day, Singaporeans are encouraged to join different campaigns that promote volunteering and meaningful participation, fostering a sense of belonging and shared responsibility. Campaigns like FlyOurFlag and EatAsOne underscore people's solidarity and the spirit of togetherness.
Celebrations after National Day
The jubilations continue after National Day. On the 10th of August, five Heartland Celebration sites will be set up, inviting Singaporeans to continue the festivities and celebrate the nation's 59th birthday. The activities will be diverse, ranging from community group performances on stage, static displays of SAF, SCDF, and SPF vehicles, to fireworks displays, carnival games, and family activities.
