Located in Clark County, Springfield holds an annual 4th of July weekend celebration: the Buck Creek Boom. This year marks the 28th anniversary of this magnificent fireworks display, hosted by the National Trail Parks and Recreation District. Drawing hundreds of people every year, this show is known for its spectacular pyrotechnic scenes.
Schedule and Admission
This spectacular Independence Day fireworks show usually takes place on the Sunday closest to the Fourth. Springfield fireworks are launched at dusk, around 10 p.m., from Ferncliff, on the banks of Buck Creek. Thanks to local businesses and community members supporting the show, you can enjoy the event for free. Note that organizers also reserve a rain date in case of unfavorable weather conditions.
Best Locations to Watch
The fireworks can be seen from various places in the city, but there are some areas where you can get the most amazing snapshots of the show. Some of the best viewpoints include Wittenberg University, Springfield Museum of Art, and Snyder Whitewater Park. Organizers recommend watching the spectacular from higher points in the city. Parking in the parking lot of Springfield Regional Medical Center is frowned upon for the fireworks show.

The Springfield Museum of Art, which holds regular exhibitions and workshops, is nearby. It is open Wednesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and entry costs $5 for adults and free for students. Downtown Springfield is located some 60 miles (97 km) from Downtown Columbus, so you can take an hour's drive and also spend some time in Ohio's state capital.
