It is now over 20 years that Mayfest (or Maifest to sound more German) has been on with its loads of beers, foods, and music in a heated tent. Join in the celebration that basically starts the festival season.
Mayfest was established to promote Chicago's German heritage. It benefits German organizations such as DANK HAUS, the American Aid Society, the Donauschwaben Youth Group, German American Policy, etc. It is a traditional German celebration of spring arrival, held on Armitage Avenue at Lincoln Park. Thousands of Chicago residents join the fun weekend full of cold beer, delicious food, and cocktails.
Mayfest is usually held on the third weekend of May or during the Memorial Day Weekend. Its previous lineups included Olden Yolk, Bill Mackay, Matchess, and Twin Shadow. Live music is played on two stages. German ethnic music is also played during the day. Entertainment includes traditional Keg Tapping and May Queen Crowning. Besides, special entertainment and kids activities are planned for families.
