Located in White River State Park, the Indianapolis Zoo is an ideal spot for a stroll during the holiday season. Since 1967, the zoo has hosted its annual holiday lights event, "Christmas at the Zoo," making it one of the first holiday light displays in the country.
Events
Each year, the zoo adds new displays and attractions to enhance the experience. One highlight is Santa's Village, located under the Bicentennial Pavilion, where children can meet Santa in his study. Visitors can explore Santa’s Magic Cottage, guided by Santa's elves, and enjoy various activities, including animal encounters, photo opportunities, festive treats, the Mirror Maze, rides, and Christmas shows featuring a symphonic choir and twinkling lights. Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen is another special attraction open for visits until December 23rd.
Additionally, Santa’s Barn showcases a sleigh and some of Santa's reindeer, adding to the holiday spirit. The zoo's highlights also feature the Tunnel of Lights, one of the most photographed spots in Indianapolis, and the Penguin Pavilion, where kids can meet adorable penguins.
Tickets Price & Open Hours
Entrance is included with admission. The price range for adults is $15.00 to $34.75, while for children aged 2 to 12, it is $15.00 to $31.75. Seniors and military personnel (62+) have a price range of $15.00 to $32.75. Activities run from 5 pm to 9 pm on Sunday through Wednesday and from 5 pm to 10 pm on Friday and Saturday. The zoo is closed on November 28, December 24-25, December 31, and January 1.
