The New Cumberland Apple Festival is an annual event held on the last Saturday in September in New Cumberland Borough Park, located at Front and Reno Streets in the town of New Cumberland, Eastern Pennsylvania. The family-friendly event features great entertainment, contests, arts and crafts, food, and many activities for all ages.
Fest Entertainment
The one-day Apple Festival offers live musical entertainment from opening until closing, as well as a vibrant marketplace with more than 70 food vendors and 200 craft vendors. Other highlights include an Apple Pie Contest for baking enthusiasts and a Lego Contest for those who are able to create a project from Lego blocks.
Apple Pie Contest
If you're an avid baker and would love to share the results of your craft with fellow enthusiasts, consider joining the Apple Pie Contest. Sweet apple pies are all homemade from scratch and brought to Borough Park in the early morning. Attendees of the festival can taste the contest entries for $2.50 per slice. The prizes include $100 for first place and $50 for second place.
Lego Contest
Grab all your Lego sets and unleash your creativity by building a unique Lego sculpture of your own. A great opportunity to spend more time with your children, the Lego Contest is another beloved attraction of the festival. Organizers also prepared a Lego area for children to play in. The complete showpieces must be delivered to the venue by 10 am. The judges determine the best lego set, the creator of which will receive a gift certificate.
Schedule & Admission
The festival normally takes place on the last Saturday of September. The grounds start letting in first visitors at 9 am and continue operating until 4 pm. Musicians entertain the crowd from early morning until closing. The judging for the Apple Pie Contest and Lego Contest begins at 10 am, followed by the apple pie public sampling at noon. The winners of both competitions are announced at 11:30 am. Admission to the festival is completely free.
Location & Transportation
The New Cumberland Apple Festival takes place in New Cumberland Borough Park, which can be easily accessed by transportation provided by the festival. Visitors can take advantage of the trolleys, which pick up guests at Bridge Street at the corners of Third Street, Seventh Street, Park Avenue, and Haldeman Boulevard.
Charity Work
The festival, with over 30 years of history, is sponsored by the New Cumberland Olde Towne Association. The event attracts about 12,000 attendees annually. New Cumberland Apple Festival supports a number of local non-profits as well as the Fire Department, the Police Department, the Fire Police, the Civil Air Patrol, and New Cumberland Revitalization efforts.
