Check out a long-standing tradition of the Apricot Capital of the World

The rural city of Patterson, California, holds the nickname of Apricot Capital of the World for a reason. The area yields nearly 95,000 tons of this fruit every year! Apricot Fiesta spans two days and features a community parade celebrating patriotism, an apricot pie-eating contest, a beauty pageant, and vendors offering food, crafts, and various apricot-themed products. Everyone can join in the annual Apricot Fiesta, a sweet harvest festival with a free entrance.

Schedule of events

Downtown Patterson will host a parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday, followed by fireworks at dusk. The festival kicks off at 5 p.m. on Friday and continues from 9 a.m. on Saturday to Sunday. A classic car show is scheduled for Saturday, June 1st, from 12 pm to 6 pm at North 3rd Stree.

Food Activities

Patterson Apricot Fiesta takes place over a weekend at the beginning of June and offers plenty of delicious desserts and drinks. A part of the annual tradition is Lion's Club chicken. The 52nd annual Apricot Fiesta chicken BBQ is scheduled for June 1, from 11 am to 3 pm, for $25 for a famous chicken, a side dish, and a soft drink. Another great way to honor the apricots is the baking contest. The categories include cookies & bars, cakes & pies, misc. desserts, misc. anything. Baked goods should be dropped off before May 25th. The entry is $5; all winners will be awarded cash prizes.

Patterson Apricot Fiesta Parade (June 1, 2024)

The Parade Route will be closed to traffic around 8:00 am. Starting at West Las Palmas Ave and 7th Street, the Parade proceeds eastward on West Las Palmas to Plaza Circle. It then circles Plaza Circle before heading north on North 3rd Street, continuing until K Street. The main stage on Plaza Circle will serve as the location for the parade announcer and judges. The Parade has its annual award in the following categories: Hometown Spirit, Best Float, Best Marching Band, Best Overall Band & Best Novelty.

Entertainment

The festival offers a diverse range of attractions, including food stalls, arts & crafts displays, and various commercial vendors. Additionally, guests can partake in special events such as the cornhole tournament, arm wrestling competition, and an exciting fireworks display. Children will find delight in the kids' zone, ensuring they remain entertained throughout the festivities. Furthermore, Patterson students have the opportunity to participate in a prose contest and a glamorous beauty pageant, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.

Patterson Events

Besides the Apricot Fiesta, Patterson also hosts a number of amusing events in late May, on the weekend before the main celebration. You can attend such popular happenings as Wine & Cheese and Miss Patterson Meet & Greet, or the Apricot Fiesta Bake Contest.
