The rock faces and waterfalls of Falls Park along the Big Sioux River are famous for their natural beauty. During the festive holiday celebrations, they are enhanced by thousands of lights. Every November, the park completely transforms into a Winter Wonderland full of colorful, dazzling lights and Christmas music. The festival runs every night from late November through early January.
Winter Wonderland at Falls Park Highlights
The spectacular display features a total of 338,000 LEDs and lights, 260 decorated trees, more than 25 mi (40 km) of Christmas light strings, about 40 wreaths, and 215 adorned light poles. The park is wrapped with more than half a mile of rope lights. Kids love multiple animated lighted displays in the park, and the 360‑degree view of the spectacular available from the Visitor Information Center will leave them in awe.
After a beautiful winter excursion through the mindblowing lights in Falls Park, stop by The Falls Overlook Café to warm up and enjoy a few more stunning views. The cafe is also hosting a Winter Wonderland Celebration on certain days with live music provided by the Beautiful Kingdom. There will be a chili bar, adult holiday drinks, ice cream, and treats for children available for purchase.
Location and Admission
Falls Park is located at 131 East Falls Park Drive, just north of downtown Sioux Falls. Falls Park is open from 5 am through midnight. The event is free and open to the public, ffering a great way to enjoy winter festivities outdoors.
Falls Park
The park is located on more than 128 acres (51 hectares) along the Big Sioux River. On average, 7.400 gallons (28.012 liters) of water fall 100 feet (30.5 meters) above the falls every second. The falls can be enjoyed from many vantage points, but one of the best spots is the five-story observation tower. Falls Park is also home to some of Sioux Falls' oldest buildings.
Stay active in the park on bike paths that include a 19-mile (30-km) loop, as well as more than 17 miles (27.4 kilometers) of spurs connecting the neighborhood to the main trail. Also, don't miss the historic horse barn, built in the late 1800s for horses that worked in the local stone quarries. The restored barn now tells the story of agriculture's history and impact on the region.
