Evanston 4th of July Fireworks & Parade

Evanston is a college town suburb of Chicago, located 12 mi (19 km) north of the city. The Evanston 4th of July Celebration has always been a source of pride for the locals. The Independence Day festivities have been organized here since 1921, when a local child got injured while playing with fireworks. Then, the people of Evanston decided to form a Fourth of July Association to organize a safe celebration. Evanston Fourth of July is a fun family-friendly event, which features a parade, a fun run, a concert, and fireworks.

Parade and 4th of July Fun Run

The festivities usually start on the morning of July 4th, with games and kids' activities at playgrounds throughout Evanston. At around noon, the 4th of July Fun Run sets off on Central Street. The run, which is less than a mile (0.7mi) is meant for children under 10. The route goes west on Central St. to Fire Station 5, turns around, and concludes at Ackerman Park. he first 125 registered participants receive a t-shirt, bib, and ribbon. Early registration is $10. Race Day Registration is $15.

At 2 pm, the locals and visitors gather to see the annual Independence Day Parade down Central Street. The route goes from Central Park Ave. to Ashland Ave. (Ryan Field). The parade boasts over 95 years of history. Its entries include marching bands, local community groups, schools, and more.

Fireworks Show

The evening entertainment program starts at around 7 pm with the Lakefront twilight concert by Palatine Concert Band. Musicians perform from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Arrington Lakefront Lagoon at Dawes Park. The concert ends with a spectacular fireworks display at 9:30. Fireworks are usually launched from Clark Street Beach. Anywhere on the lakefront is a good location to watch.

Chicago 4th of July Events

Chicago offers a plethora of various events and festivals during the Independence Day weekend. The most popular celebration takes place at Navy Pier. Live on the Lake! is a free concert series, which runs from 2 pm through 9 pm. The concert ends with Navy Pier fireworks. You can watch the show from land or take a cruise to enjoy this special spectacle over Lake Michigan fully.
