Sometimes you wish to escape the hectic city life for the sake of a more private Fourth. Waukegan Lakefront, about 45 miles (72 km) north of Chicago, offers a wonderful alternative. The one-hour Waukegan fireworks show lights up the sky above the Yacht Club, 199 N. Harbor Place, between 9:30 pm and 10:30 pm.
To fully enjoy the 4th of July fireworks, occupy some of the best vantage points around Yacht Club, namely Green Town on the Rocks, the Dockside, the Bay Marine, and the Port District. Some people take in the spectacle from the Waukegan Municipal Beach. Yet, you might not be able to see some of the lowest fireworks from there.

You can watch the show from the Navy Pier or book a lake cruise to marvel at this special spectacle over Lake Michigan in the most comfortable way. The villages of Itasca and Crystal Lake also boast impressive fireworks.
