Fox Lake, located 55 miles (89 km) northwest of downtown Chicago, is a great summer playground for Chicagoans. The Chain O’Lakes, connecting Pistakee Lake, Nippersink Lake, and Fox Lake, is also a perfect place to celebrate the 4th of July, thanks to great recreation and an array of fun events in Lake County.

Celebrate Fox Lake is a vibrant community festival that takes place on the Saturday before Independence Day. It includes a parade, a free concert in the park, a car show, and fireworks. The celebration starts with a parade at 11 am and ends with fireworks scheduled for 9:30 pm. Attendees can enjoy live music and various entertainment during the day.
Fox Lake Parade (June 29, 2024)
The Celebrate Fox Lake Parade commences at Grant Community High School and travels down Grand Avenue into Downtown Fox Lake, IL. Float participants are encouraged to decorate their floats in red, white, and blue! The parade will kick off at 11 am.
Classic Car Show (June 29, 2024)
After the Parade, live music, food, and drink celebrations will occur at Lakefront Park from 5:00 to 10:00 pm. A Classic Car Show is scheduled at Millenium Park from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. At 1:30 pm, the top rides will be presented with awards. Registration is $20 and can be done on-site. All bikes, cars, trucks, and vans are welcome to participate. The Car show is open to the public.
Fox Lake Fireworks (June 29, 2024)
Naturally, the highlight of the evening is the fireworks display from the hilltop on Nippersink Lake, scheduled from 9:30 pm to 9:50 pm (after dusk). Another great way to spend the 4th of July in Fox Lake is to get on the water. Dozens of decorated boats and floats on Nippersink Lake create an especially festive and relaxed atmosphere. The night ends with a spectacular Fox Lake fireworks show over Nippersink Lake! The boat rental prices start at $385.
Chicago 4th of July celebrations
If you are planning to visit Chicago 4th of July celebrations, the 2024 program includes Fireworks on Navy Pier with the free concert series (2 pm-9 pm), Grant Park Music Festival at the Millennium Park with the performance by Grant Park Orchestra, Somewhere from West Side Story & The Waltzing Cat. Hyde Park will host the free festival with a parade, while Washington Park's International Festival of Life will feature performances, food, and jubilation.
