The North Carolina Seafood Festival is among the most popular free festivals in the state. It takes place on the first weekend of October in Morehead City, North Carolina, attracting more than 200,000 attendees. The festival has been held since 1989 gaining a reputation for its premium entertainment, family fun, and the most delicious seafood. Over 100 vendors offer a wide choice of foods. Everyone has to try “Down East” Clam Chowder, Charcoal Mullet, Sea Urchin on a stick, Calamari, Marinated Eel or Shrimp Burger.
The musical lineup of this free festival includes nationally known stars like Blake Shelton, Tracy Byrd, The Spinners, Ryan Cabrera. A Beach Music Adventure takes place on the main stage. Also, there is a live music concert, road race, pier fishing competition, a regatta, and a boat show. Amusement rides are available for all ages.
Blessing of the Fleet (October 6, 2024)
The festival features a moving "Blessing of the Fleet" ceremony on the Morehead City waterfront is dedicated to brave men and women who risk their lives on commercial fishing vessels of Carteret County, supplying fresh seafood all over the country. Blessing of the Fleet always occurs on Sunday morning during the festival weekend.
Other Events and Entertainment
The family-friendly gathering offers plenty of free entertainment for the whole family. On Friday, guests can buy an armband for $30 for unlimited carnival rides. Live music on the Main Stage starts on Friday night and continues through Sunday afternoon. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for comfort.
North Carolina Seafood Festival has a tradition that Miss North Carolina “flings” the first flounder on Saturday. The Flounder Fling is one of the most beloved events of the festival. Port of Pours is another Saturday tradition. The ticketed beer festival showcases NC’s coastal craft breweries. The festival's Saturday ends with a spectacular fireworks show over Sugar Loaf Island across from the Morehead City waterfront.

North Carolina Seafood Festival runs from noon to 11 pm on Friday, October 4th, from 10 am to 11 pm on Saturday, October 5th, and from 11 am to 5 pm on Sunday, October 6th.
