Obidos Chocolate Festival (Festival Internacional de Chocolate de Óbidos) 2025, Portugal
Paradise for chocolate lovers in a medieval town of Óbidos in the very centre of Portugal
Dates: March–April (unconfirmed)
Every spring, the population of the small medieval Óbidos rises dramatically up to 200,000 people in two weeks as the Obidos Chocolate Festival (Festival do Chocolate Obidos in Portuguese) arrives.
Festival Highlights
A beloved event first launched in 2002. Since then, it has become a yearly celebration of all things cocoa, highlighting its versatility—from the sweetest confections to pure, rich chocolate creations. The festival features impressive chocolate sculptures, culinary demonstrations by renowned chefs, and a variety of entertainment events, making it a must-visit for chocolate enthusiasts.
Activities
At the festival, visitors can indulge in a variety of sweets while also trying their hand at preparing chocolate treats during interactive cooking classes. Around 40 different companies specializing in chocolate present their finest products at the chocolate fair, or, as the Portuguese call it, feira do chocolate.
Dedicated spaces entertain all ages and interests. The Chocolate Pub provides a unique experience where craft beer and chocolate-inspired cocktails can be sampled, combining two irresistible pleasures. For the younger visitors, the Little Chefs area allows children to get creative, play, and learn about traditional Portuguese games while exploring the world of chocolate. It’s a fun and educational space that introduces kids to Portugal’s rich cultural heritage in the sweetest way possible.
Schedule
Keep in mind the festival is open to the public only on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11 am to 8 pm.
Tickets
General admission for visitors aged 12 and older is priced at €10, while tickets for children between the ages of 3 and 11 are available for €8. Admission is free for infants and toddlers up to 2 years old.
