The first of July marks the beginning of the Caribbean spiny lobster season in Belize when the juiciest delicacy in Central America becomes available in many restaurants across the country. The best occasion to try the variety of delicious grilled lobster dishes is the Lobster Festival, which is held in early July in San Pedro. Similar smaller festivals are also held in Caye Caulker and the southern resort of Placencia.
The Lobster Festival is a foodies' dream event featuring fresh-caught grilled lobsters as well as lobster tacos, kabobs, and other treats. The main highlight of the festival is the LobsterFest Block Party, held in the evening at Central Park in San Pedro's town center. Delicious smells and drumbeats spread all over the area. Tropical cocktails, live music, and dancing create a Caribbean carnival atmosphere filled with punta, reggaeton, and soca rhythms.
