Best time to visit Belize

Scuba Diving in Belize 2024-2025

World's second largest reef is a paradise for divers

Best time: November–April | April–June

Belize's turquoise waters will lure divers in to discover the marine treasures of the Caribbean. Caves, reefs, and shipwrecks are a must-see when visiting. Not to mention the diverse marine fauna, which include whale sharks, rays, and turtles. Being the top destination for scuba diving, Belize attracts both professionals and amateurs alike.

The dry season from November through April is generally the best time to visit Belize. However, April through June is another excellent period for diving enthusiasts. Less tourists, lower prices, and the best water visibility are big bonuses. The endless summer in Belize guarantees that the water temperature stays around 81 °F (27 °C) throughout the year.

Diving with whale sharks

Snorkeling and scuba diving with whale sharks is Belize's specialty. Multiple companies offer guided tours to experience this nerve-tickling activity. Despite a scary appearance, whale sharks are quite harmless to humans. Usually, sharks are attracted by fish concentrated near the reef, where guides take the divers. The most popular locations for this experience include Half Moon Caye, Shark Ray Alley (near Hol Chan Marine Reserve), Glover’s Atoll, South Water Caye, and of course, the legendary Great Blue Hole.

The Great Blue Hole

The Great Blue Hole is the most recognizable gem of Belize and divers' favorite destination. This wonder of nature is 407 ft (124 m) deep and 1,043 ft (317 m) wide. The dark blue marine sinkhole is surrounded by reefs where small fish live. Aside from fish, you can spot blacktip reef sharks that hunt them. Diving near The Great Blue Hole is an absolute must if you want to experience the best of Belize.
