Rjukan Icefestival 2023 in Norway

Frozen waterfalls are a perfect setting for such festivities as ice climbing speed competitions

Dates: mid-February 2023 (canceled)

Climber, Rjukan Icefestival, 2011

The Norwegian town Rjukan boasts 170 waterfalls which happen to freeze in winter temperatures. It would be a shame not to make use of such a generous gift of nature. Besides regular ice climbing opportunities available only for the skillful and experienced climbers, Norwegians annually organize Ice Fest, where everyone may learn to climb ice and try their hand at this thrilling Norwegian sport. The Ice climbing festival features lectures and conferences on the subject, guided climbs, speed trials, and many other entertaining activities. The exact date of the fest is variable, but it usually takes place in mid-February.
