This large-framed docile mountain sheep have been bred since the 1400s. It is especially suited for steep, stony slopes. Now, it's one of the symbols of the region, and probably one of the most photographed animals in Switzerland. The best time to visit the mountain pastures is during the summer. Valais Blacknose Sheep roam the hills and valleys around Zermatt.
