Corsica is not typically thought of as a winter sports destination. However, visitors will be pleasantly surprised by the great skiing available in Corsica's mountains. The two main ski spots are Val d'Ese near Bastelica and Ghisoni village. Moreover, you can find some freeride spots in the area.

Ski Season in Corsica

Snow comes to Corsica at the beginning of February. So, the best time for skiers is the end of February through the beginning of March. The ski season spans up until late spring, into the end of May at the higher altitudes. However, consider checking out local weather reports as conditions might vary significantly depending on the day.

Winter Weather in Corsica

During the winter ski season, Corsica's weather is usually mild in the coastal areas and much colder in the mountain landscapes. The ski resorts might experience heavy snowfall and stronger winds, so be on the lookout for that. Despite the harsh weather, visitors can still enjoy the picturesque Mediterranean landscape. It is recommended to wear warm clothing to protect themselves from the cold and wind during your stay.

Val d'Ese Resort

Situated in the municipality of Bastelica and crossing into Ciamannacce, the Val d'Ese resort is one of the prime destinations for skiing in the area. With an altitude of 5,249 feet (1,600 m), the resort offers magnificent views of Golfe d'Ajaccio. Here, you'll be able to ski across more than 20 ha of slopes and even engage in some off-piste skiing. The resort offers equipment rental for various activities, from skiing and snowshoeing to hiking and sledding.

Equipment Rental & Hours

You can rent snowshoes for as low as €8, with ski and snowboard gear varying around €17-22. Ski lifts start operating from 9 am and are open until 4:30 pm from Monday through Sunday.

Ghisoni Capanelle Resort

Just 9 miles (15 km) from the village of Ghisoni, the Ghisoni Capanelle Resort is a relatively small family resort which offers great options for a Corsica winter getaway. With the highest point of 7,628 feet (2,325 m) at Monte Renosu, Ghisoni is ideal for both seasoned skiers and beginners. Here, you'll find three main ski lifts: Capaghjola, Pietra Niella, and Purine ski lifts, with access to slopes of varying difficulty. The adult package costs €20, while the children's package can be purchased for €10.
