Early Christmas morning, children, dressed in their best or new clothing, take their parents by the hand and accompany them to the spectacular Grand Market (often called Gran' Market) as it is considered the holiday's highlight. Gran Market is held in the major towns all over Jamaica, but Kingston has the most outstanding festival. This festive atmosphere makes winter one of the best times to visit Jamaica.
Jamaica Grand Market opens around 6:00 pm and works until the morning! The stalls, houses, and streets are usually brightly decorated, while popular local bands entertain people of all ages. Street vendors sell boiled corn, jerk chicken, sugarcane, and candy canes. Many Christmas decorations, garments, food, toys, home decor, are on sale, enticing citizens from all the corners.
