Strolling through fields full of beautiful blooming dahlias is one of the most exceptional summer experiences in the Portland area. Their peak bloom is marked by Dahlia Festival that is held at Swan Island Dahlias Farm in Canby, Oregon, on Labor Day weekend and the weekend before. Visitors can see over 400 stunning flower arrangements and over 15,000 cut blooms on display at three indoor pavilions.

Festival Highlights

In addition to flower-arranging demonstrations, the festival features lectures about dahlia and discussions at 1 p.m. Every day, there are several dahlia tuber dividing demonstrations. Guests can attend classes on dahlia care, art, floral, health & beauty. Classes require pre-registration. There is also live music: jazz and blues, as well as wine and food. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dahlia Festival offers free admission and free parking.

2024 Lineup

Live music lineup in 2024 features Bobkat Duo, playing rock, pop, country, blues, jazz, & soul cover tunes, on August 3. Steve and Margot Show will take place on August 4. The Parnells, an Americana/country band, will play on August 17. A singer from California, Tiffany Bird & Band, will perform on August 18. An American folk-rock singer, Rob Rainwater, will perform on August 25. Fox and Bones (Sarah Vitort and Scott Gilmore) will perform on August 31. Kelsey Bales will sing on September 7. Country singer Olivia Harms & The Roadrunners will play all day on September 8. Fox and Bones will be back on September 14. Tiffany Bird & Band will sing again on September 15. The Parnells will take the stage on September 21. Joni Harms & The Harms Way Band will perform on September 22. During the last weekend, Steve and Margot Show will play on Saturday, and Bobkat Duo will perform on Sunday.

Schedule

Live music is on Saturdays and Sundays only. All concerts run from noon to 4 pm. Food Carts are available daily. Vendors will offer various alcoholic beverages, depending on the food truck, on the weekends.

If you cannot make it to the festival, there is still a chance to visit stunning blooming fields that are generally open from the beginning of August through the end of the blooming season in late September or even early October. Swan Island Dahlias boasts 16 ha (40 acres). It's the largest dahlia-growing farm in the country. Fields are located in the ​Swan Island area, above the mouth of the Willamette River. Visitors can have a picnic overlooking blooming fields or take some cut flowers home.
