New Year's Eve is definitely one of the best times to visit Alaska. If you want a truly snowy celebration like the fairy-tales, head to Anchorage—Alaska's largest city located in the south-central part of the state.
Anchorage New Year's fireworks
Anchorage's main New Year's Eve celebration occurs downtown. At Town Square Park, family-friendly celebrations are held from 5 pm to 8 pm on New Year's Eve and include DJ music shows and fireworks.
Sporty New Year
For those who write a sports resolutions list every year, there is an excellent way to prove their serious intentions. The annual Northern Lights Resolution Run is a good tradition to literally run into the New Year. In addition to running, you can rejoice in skiing and snowboarding in Girdwood. This resort runs select lifts all the way until midnight to help you ring in the New Year on the slopes.
New Year's Eve by Anchorage Downtown Partnership
The Anchorage Downtown Partnership, Ltd. organizes an annual celebration consisting of drive-in fireworks and a live music show. The event starts at 7:30 pm and lasts until 10 pm, letting you dance your socks off.
The most magical New Year’s Eve spots are located away from the city and light pollution. After all, Alaska is famous for its northern lights. But if you are not lucky enough to catch the elusive aurora borealis, check out the glow of the New Year’s Eve Torchlight Parade at Alyeska Resort in Girdwood.
