Vilnius Christmas Markets

The capital of Lithuania's baroque architecture and medieval Old Town look especially festive during the holiday season. Vilnius Christmas markets become the major attraction from late November to early January, drawing crowds of children and adults alike.

Christmas Village at the Cathedral Square

Vilnius’ Cathedral Square features the largest Christmas market in the city and a giant Christmas tree, one of the most beautiful in Europe. Dozens of decorated wooden chalets, arranged around the Christmas tree, offer holiday food and drinks, such as gingerbread, cheeses, preserves, and sweet pastries. In addition to that, market stalls offer decorations and handmade crafts. It's a perfect place for gift shopping and a casual stroll with a cup of hot chocolate or mulled wine. If you get lucky, you might run into Santa Claus or the Three Wise Men, or some busy elves. The Cathedral Square also features a large nativity scene and various attractions.

Christmas Village at Town Hall Square

One more beautiful Christmas market is located near Vilnius Town Hall. A smaller and more modern Christmas market doesn't have traditional wooden stalls, but stunning glass igloos instead. Some igloos feature food or beverages, others offer unique gifts from local artists and artisans. It's possible to explore all the Christmas attractions of Vilnius if you hop on the Christmas train, which leaves every half hour, stopping at the best-decorated locations throughout the city center.
