Fishing in Chile 2024-2025
Fishing enthusiasts may try their luck in approved areas, or also discover their own fish-abundant locales
Best time: mid-November–April
Plentiful Chilean water basins, both fresh and salty, promise a good fishing experience. The most widespread and popular fishing species include various kinds of trout, namely, brown, rainbow, brook and sea trout, and also the celebrated "king" salmon. The most renowned fishing areas include Los Lagos, the Coyhaique regions, and Carretera Austral. Inquiring travellers may still look for less known fishing spots, and the best way to find one is to ask local experts. Tourist fishermen are asked to purchase a fishing license which costs 65 dollars. The fishing season spans over almost half the year starting from the second week of November through April.
