Carnaval de Mazatlán, one of Mexico’s most vibrant and lively carnivals, takes place in the coastal city of Mazatlán, Sinaloa. Scheduled five days before Ash Wednesday, this annual event is renowned for its brass band music, colorful parades, and festive atmosphere

Parades

The carnival features two grand parades, both of which draw thousands of attendees. The Inaugural Parade, held on Sunday, winds along the picturesque Malecón—a scenic promenade overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Starting at Avenida Del Mar and concluding at Punto Valentino, the parade showcases intricately decorated floats and dance performances.

The Second Parade, held on Tuesday, follows a similar route but takes place on the southbound lane of the Malecón, spanning from Avenida de los Deportes to Olas Altas. Together, these parades attract an estimated 500,000 spectators, offering a visual feast of creativity and culture.

Coronation Ceremonies

One of the key events of the festival is the coronation of the Carnival Queen at the Teodoro Mariscal Baseball Stadium. This regal tradition includes musical performances and stunning displays of pageantry.

Olas Altas Street Party

The Olas Altas district transforms into the heart of the carnival’s nightlife. Spanning several days, this street party features live music on multiple stages, including 11 DJ setups. Located at the southern end of the Malecón, the festivities run from 6 pm to 2 am.

Schedule and Program

Events typically kick off in the late afternoon or early evening, with parades starting around 5 pm and street parties extending into the night. Organizers are expected to release the full schedule closer to the event date, so attendees are encouraged to check official sources for updates.

Tickets and Parking

Admission to most carnival events, including parades, is free. However, tickets may be required for premium viewing areas, the coronation ceremony, and specific concerts. Prices for these tickets vary, with details usually announced in advance. Parking in Mazatlán during the carnival can be challenging due to large crowds, so visitors may want to use public transportation or arrive early to secure a spot.

Location and Accessibility

Mazatlán, located along Mexico's Pacific coast, is well-known for its stunning beaches and historic charm. The nearest major city is Culiacán, approximately 136 miles (220 km) away, making Mazatlán accessible by road or air. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as the Old Town, the Lighthouse of Mazatlán, and the islands off the coast.
