This beautiful flower can be found both in botanical gardens and in the wild. The Louisiana Iris is native to the southeastern USA and is one of the symbols of New Orleans. It grows in the swamps, along Mississippi river banks, and on damp hillsides. Garden hybrids of Louisiana Iris are available in a vast array of colours and shapes.
In fact, the Louisiana Iris is one of five iris species native to Louisiana: Iris fulva, Iris hexagona, Iris brevicaulis, Iris giganticaerulea, and Iris nelsonii. These species are closely related as a result of interbreeding. The species are often divided into "red" and "blue" according to their color.
